Jail or Hell
I don’t know any of the backstory to Carcel o Infierno, the stunning, terrifying animated web series about Venezuelan prison life. I don’t know who @luidigalfo, the animator behind it all, is, or where he gets the backing to put it together. But the series is amazing. The production values are impressive, the jerga malandra impenetrable, the constant sense of menace and dread brilliantly rendered, and the entire package both compulsively watchable and keep-you-up-at-night upsetting.
NSFW would be the understatement of the year, but have a look anyway.
A documentary it sure ain’t, and I wonder if it doesn’t just glorify gang-banging for some of its audience. But with so little access to what goes on behind prison bars in Venezuela these days, Carcel o Infierno may be as close as you can get to the actual feel of prison life without actually, you know, ending up on the inside.
