Yes sir. The “C” word crossed his lips. In weirdly circumlocuitous, adjetival form – as though “Células Cancerígenas” meant anything other than…well…that.
Poor guy.
Update: The video is now up and it’s weird. Chávez reading. Leaning on his “S”s. Sounding like the narrator from Nuestro Insólito Universo.
Took the guy 12 years into his presidency to read his first speech. We’re so far down the rabbit hole here it’s not even funny.
Update 2: Obviously, Chigüire nails it. We wouldn’t have expected otherwise.

We always knew hwe was malignant
Strange watching him READ a speech… Something is definetly wrong (worse than they are letting on?), specially after hearing Jaua´s follow up speach, they SEEM scared shitless… I´m still confused as hell. Either he is dying, or very lucky, or he is a fucking genious.
My apologies to Bocaranda, the guy was right… However, I still stand 100% behind my post in the “NPI” thread.
Bocaranda’s report had too much medical detail from several sources to not reflect a certain credibility. Based on it, I concluded that Chávez is riddled with cancer, at various stages. I mean, when CA pops up here and there, in a person’s body, it rings a few bells.
I’ll just chime in to say “hi Arturo”.
Oh, please, it was obviously a montaje made in the imperialist empire to discredit Chavez.
A few questions:
a. What type of cancer?
b. When is he getting back?
c. Where was Adan Chavez when Jaua gave his speech?
What Adan said in his speech few days ago is specially worrying now that we know what HE knew about his brother diagnosis when he threatened us.
Waiting to speak to Al Jazeera… live! Yikes.
You?
suerte!
BTW, chavistas were lied to. I wonder if this will wake them up from their sleep.
Are you new here?
I doubt it. The rationalization will be something like this: information had to be restricted to prevent any damaging information passing to the escualidos. Or: had to keep spirits up. Of course, when Chavez finally admitted that there was a big problem tonight, both those rationalizations could be said to fly out the window. Who knows?
The biggest concern is not being told the truth, but to keep the gravy train flowing, however minuscule one’s share may be.
“Leaning on his “S”s. Sounding like the narrator from Nuestro Insólito Universo.”
I think I heard more S’s from Chavez tonight in 50 seconds than in an 5-10 minutes of his usual discourse. Perhaps this Is part of Chavez truing to “get right with God”- of which a small part would be to improve his diction to Academia Real standards.:)
Or maybe the unusual use of S’s is like the American woman who woke up from a coma, speaking with a British accent. Chavez is now building his personal (apolitical) legacy.
I’m afraid, but I think High Ranking Chavistas must be terrified
Quico, can you post the VP’s speach when you get it? The pic on N24 is classic.
I wonder why they are so scared?
Niente da fare, saw it on N24.
Now I get why they are so scared, Jaua is no Chavez…. Without Chavez their revolution is doomed and they know it.
It’s like they staged it at Madame Tussaud’s!
Sad and hysterical all at once…
Jaua, Giordani, Ramírez, Tareck, Izarrisitas, Mata FIgueroa, some other dude, some other ladies. You know who wasn’t there? Diosdado. And Adán.
A show of unity it wasn’t.
Maduro not there either
And no Alto Mando militar either as @cocando tweeted…
Listen to this whole thing again with the premise that they are planning an all out takeover in the works, yet that they can only hint at it while trying to get everyone in gear for it.
shivers…
–
Oh it sounds like a transition type speech. It doesn’t even sound like they’re following Chavez’s orders in this speech. They’re trying to assert their authority. I wonder how long until they ask Chavez to transfer power to Jaua.
Sotillo’s tweets now come to mind.
Elias Jaua is such a pathetic politician! How did this man climbed the political ladder so far up is beyond my comprehension! Even our “former bus driver” Canciller exhibits way more of a presence and some kind of confidence. Diosdado’s wheels must be big time turning right now…
It is clear why he read the speech: he had to say enough but not too much. Had he not followed a speech, he would still be still talking and giving details about what type of cancer he has. No mention of chemo.
God I would have loved to be a fly of the wall of the meeting where Fidel had to convince Chávez that he couldn’t just run his mouth randomly live on TV for once!!
I think he was not able to speak free today, so simple, he is wracked.
sorry, my bad english, I mean destroyed, demolished.
Actually, “wrack” is old English for ruin or destroy. See:
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/rack-and-ruin.html
Not to worry. You described it perfectly.
“Wracked” describes him to a nicety. Your English is far better than you give it credit for.
Wacked with drugs and racked with guilt = WRACKED!
Excellent word, I shall expropriate for the greater good of the English Language.
:)

Y el fantasma ?
Ta durmiendo ?
Mi pana le quedó DE LUJO aparecersele así en el video desde la Habana … será que no se dieron cuenta ?
Check out Eva Golinger’s Twitter, it’s a goddamn laugh riot:

That lady needs some serious medication…
a brain implant?
Transplant
wow. I wouldn’t want this dame to be looking after any legal issues. She sounds like a teeny bopper, just before favourite rock star performs on stage.
Not to get too telaraña about this, but if Ch. goes to a rojo rojito place, Eva Golinger’s book sales will plummet. She stands to benefit from being a pom-pom girl at his bedside.
This is a pretty scary situation! Chavez has lost his spark evidently, and there are a gazillion pieces missing here. Holy shit!
Well, this seems like election night, following the news until very late at night. Just a few things come to mind:
- Miguel Octavio was right all along, it was not a simple knee ailment
- Nelson Bocaranda does have sources that told him about cancer and two operations, will the resto of the details be true too?
- This will take a while to play out, they held out the type of cancer, probably because that could give clues into the real prognosis, but if he recovers from this he could play the martir again. Would people in Venezuela that are sooo relationship oriented and connected emotionally to him vote against him if he is ill or even at a risk of death? Teodoro was on Globovision and said that his speech was part of his campaign, “if” he recovers he will surely use this a way of getting the love of people back as the man who defeated cancer. Who knows what can happen, but surely it will be the least rational of every scenario you can imagine…
No doubt> If he recovers we are more than fucked
To be fair about Bocaranda, if you make enough BS up you are bound to be right eventually.
Broken clock is right twice a day
Would people in Venezuela that are sooo relationship oriented and connected emotionally to him vote against him if he is ill or even at a risk of death?
I think a more appropriate question would be “would people in Venezuela that idolize strongmen and caudillos be willing to follow a man who’s not strong enough to lead?”
What a load of long winded BS to explain how he hasn’t lied about his knee. He’s definitely off form.
Scary? Tough? Scary and tough for chavismo and their plans for Patria (which? Cuba?), Socialismo (slavery, destitution and oppression) or Death (which is in the destiny of Venezuela with this bunch governing).
For the rest of Venezuela, it’s the least traumatic way of getting rid of them all in the two videos shown, possibly forever, without chancing a comeback.
If they don’t take the hint and try “armed struggle” with their source of legitimacy waning, well, mop-up.
If I sound cruel, by the way, let me note that I wish everyone good health, sanity, good sense and goodness, enough not to formulate evil intentions: Like wishing to govern for life or submitting their people to slavery. I don’t believe in poetic justice. But it almost seems somebody heard him and said “A short life then!”.
I don’t know what’s harder: to listen the whole speech of micomandante or to read the full transcript of the thing (http://www.eud.com/2011/06/30/texto-leido-por-el-presidente-chavez-desde-la-habana.shtml)… uff. The whole story of how they found out he has cancer sounds completely bogus to me, especially after this long information blackout. I think I’ll go with M. Octavio’s side of the story.
And how is that instead of a medical staff telling us about the current situation, treatment or prognosis we get nothing concrete? How long is he going to stay there? Is it deadly? What about the rumors of metastasis? Will he get some chemo or radio? Will he be treated in Caracas?
And to add insult to injury, he said nothing about how he’s supposed to govern from Havana. When did they change the seat of our government to some unknown location in Cuba?
Funny thing how he talks about medical and personal (love-related) reasons, but omit the real reason for all the secrecy: his very egotistical political reasons. Like Petkoff said, it’s all about staying in power as long as he can…
And he bids farewell with a “Desde la patria grande”. Seriously? What the hell was that!? I’m not prone to patriotism, but to me Patria is Venezuela, not Cuba… God, how I hate this fat bastard…
I posted this to Miguels blog, The Devil’s Excrement, I hope it is not wrong to post it here too:
I will try to explain why I think it is prostate cancer here, first the text passages, then an explanation refering to those, then my “analysis” (I’m biologist not physician, with some knowledge over cancer due to familiar reasons)
Symptoms appeared weaks bevor the Cuba visit. 1
He had not taken care of his health, he didn’t do the tests that could detect some tumor early. 2
Symptoms would have been detected by surrounding people 4 (1 and the cancellation of aló presidente…)
Some anomaly was detected by examinations (not detectable from the outside for him) 5
Infection risk leads to chirugical intervention, drainage. 6
Some tests were positive for cancer 7 8
New major chirurgical intervention to eliminate the “whole” tumor 8 9
Uncertainty or conviction that metastases has ocurred 9
This, for me it speaks (if the facts are true) for prostate cancer (infection possible for weeks without really making he ill, for colon cancer it would had been devastating I think) (symptoms observable by other people: going every 30 minutes to the toilette) (drainage, I can’t imagine that by colon cancer, but maybe?) (a second intrvention to eliminate the whole tumor, with colon cancer it would had been the first time I think, you see the lesion and take so much as you need out, by prostate you don’t want to take it out -and the surroundings- if you don’t need it)
I think HCh don’t want to say it is prostate cancer too, because of the implications, he would be under chemical castration (at least, see capsular orchiectomy) if there are metastases suspected.
don’t know much about prostate CA, and Wiki is not the best place for medical information, but it appears that upon mestastasis, the bones and lymph nodes are particularly vulnerable. That would explain the problems Chavez was having with his knee and pelvis.
I could be wrong, but I think the man is toast …http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostate_cancer
If there are metastases it looks pretty bad, but it could be in a wide range of years to live. But I don’t want to speculate that further, maybe it is not prostate cancer. But for sure not a nice illness.
